I Told You That She Was a Schmoozer

As we begin the countdown to surgery, I have to laugh at the antics of our favorite little nutcase. We had a pre-op yesterday and it went well. She sure made us laugh. When the resident doctor (in training) came in to talk to her, she was willing to take off her socks and show him all of her scars. She told him about what hurt and things about the original surgery. I couldn't believe it. She became quite chatty. As soon as her doctor walked into the room, Bam...

She became the ultimate mute. She averted her eyes and ignored him as if he didn't exist. What a turkey! Whenever he asked questions, she talked to me like he wasn't even there. It doesn't seem to bother him. He is a good guy and seems to have a real heart for her and her situation. When the doctor was leaving the room he turned and asked Jacie, "Do you have any questions?"

To this she replied, "I don't want surgery," then looked away.

She is such a strong person. I know this surgery will hurt her physically but I have to admit that I think that she will be more angry than anything. She only began to walk two and a half years ago and we are asking her to give up that freedom. It is definitely for the best but how do you explain that to an eight year old?

The doctor did tell me that he wasn't worried too much about aesthetics but mechanics in regards to the surgery. Just like a guy. Let's hope that he lets a gal do the stitching or this poor kid won't want to ever wear shorts again...

She is such a little character. When they took her to get x-rays, she schmoozed the techs out of five stickers. 5!!! I tried to stop her but they kinda enjoyed the game that she played. When they asked her if she wanted a sticker she replied, "Two?"

To which they replied, "Sure."

A second later I heard her say, "Three?"

The lady laughed, "Yeah."

I wasn't there but from what I understand she kept upping the ante. They stopped her at five and she walked out quite satisfied with herself. I have noticed that she always asks for more. Always. I hope that as she gets more comfortable and knows that there will be enough, she won't feel the need to take as much as she can every time.

The surgery will be about five hours long. Friday will be a big day. We have to be up at 4 am in order to do chores and get to the hospital by 6 am. Her surgery starts at 7:30. I found out that we can lease a wheelchair from the hospital. I am glad that we don't have to buy one and that she can use a child sized one. I had found an adult size one to borrow if I needed it. Anyway, this will help with our little trip we are planning.

We covet your prayers for her. She is such a gal and I know that she will bounce back but I dread having to watch her endure what she fears so much. I know that children bounce back quickly so I think we can make some fun times happen in the eight weeks that she is laid up.

I shake my head in amazement at the journey this little girl has been on in her eight years and I thank the Lord daily that He now allows me to travel it with her. Thanks for journeying with us.
