It has been nice to relax and finally steal a little bit of summer- now that it is over. I have to admit that I love this time of year. The days, though shorter, seem longer. We have more time to relax. I enjoy the changing of the leaves and the smell of fall in the air. Jacie seems to enjoy it as well. She has been helping her brothers 'pick up walnuts.' That has been a full-time job here. She is trying to make some money because she has decided that she would like to buy a Kinect. I think she likes that system because there is a baby tiger game. I support her in her fundraising attempts. She gets pretty bored though and wanders away, talks with Kevin (her new goat) or argues with Jared. I don't mind as long as she is outside and enjoying the sunshine. I have heard that we are due a long hard winter.
In lieu of the long winter, the kids and I went to Chicago. We visited the Shedd Aquarium, Lego Store, Nike Store and the Rock n' Roll McDonalds. It was great fun. Jacie really enjoyed the aquarium. It was her first time to go. She loved the sharks and dolphins. The dolphin show was quite good and the sea lion walked along the sidewalk in front of the kids. Too cool.
The funny thing was that we went to where the Lego Store has been in the past and found that it had moved- 10 blocks north. For Jacie, 10 blocks is quite a few. After we got there, we found that The American Girl Place was next door to the Lego Store. After she had looked for awhile at the Legos, I took her over to the American Girl Store. We walked through for a minute and she turned and looked at me and said, "Can we go back to the Lego Store?"
"Just a minute," I replied, "Let's look a little more."
To humor me, she looked a little further then said, "Okay, I am ready to go to the Legos."
On the way out the door she shook her head and said, "Ma, you don't understand. I like Star Wars and Legos, not dollies."
So back to the Lego Store we went. She bought two small Lego sets- Star Wars and Aliens. She was delighted and my wallet was safe (those dolls cost a lot of money.) At 11:30 pm, when we got home, she sat down and built them. Well, until I told her she had to finish in the morning. She has been enjoying them ever since. She is such a piece of work. Precious little could have prepared me for the person she is.
Before we went to Chicago, she and I went shopping at the kid's clothing store at the mall. This was more like an information gathering session for me because I have never been able to interest her in buying clothes. On a whim, I took her in. Boy, did I live to regret that...
The first thing that we saw was a tiger printed fur coat. She was sold. It was love at first sight. After a little bit of time and shopping, we left the store armed with the fur coat, a tiger printed shirt to go under it, a frilly lace skirt, a pair of cheetah printed pantyhose, a plaid skirt and purple shirt and one silver necklace to 'bling' the two outfits out. My lands, this kid can shop. She really did need church clothes- I just didn't realize the wild shopper that lurked within her. She had a blast. I did as well. She cannot wait until Sunday when she can go to church in her 'new' duds. I wonder how her daddy will feel about her fur.
At this point, I bet she could do or wear about anything. She came home from Chicago with a Best Friends necklace (the type that has the two halves of a heart on separate chains.) She gave the 'other' half of her heart to her daddy because she loves him. Ugghh... I just know that I am going to be demoted to second wife.
I only brought him chocolate and a bamboo plant (which I let the boys give him.) Man, I need to step up my game.
On the whole, she is dong well. She appears to be happy and well adjusted. I could not ask for more.
