She Couldn't Be Happier

I have to admit, these are my favorite of days. The rainy fall Saturday feeling has sunk into my bones and I am curled up on the sofa- only momentarily because the washer and dryer will be calling my name soon. But for these spare minutes, I am free to chat.

Jacie and her brothers are holed up in the basement watching their shows, the dishwasher sings in the background and the vacuuming is complete. I am reaching the end of my ritualistic fall cleaning. Some people have a spring cleaning- I have a fall. It starts after fair and I literally purge my house of the layers of summer dust, the collection of summer junk and begin to think of the holidays. Honestly, it is my favorite time of the year. If it gives you any indicator of how serious I am about this cleaning, I have filled many trash bags, vacuumed every floor, washed every linen, pillow and blanket that wasn't bolted down. That was before I started my actual cleaning...

It took Jacie a little bit to get used to my neurotic ways. Most of her life was spent in a small village outside of Beijing or an orphanage inside. Neither of these situations lend themselves to cleanliness. There is a different standard of clean between the cultures. She has adapted though and often helps me bring the house into the condition that I enjoy it. Having said that- she is a complete messy. I pick her dirty socks off the sofa more often than either of the boys. Silly girl~

She has fallen into a nice school rhythm. She is able to independently complete some of it. Then she and I work on reading and math. She still is a little confused by the different sounds of reading but I am slowly working her into it. It seems like when I get impatient- she gets stressed. So I make it very low-key. She loves her swimming time. Her teacher calls her a fish and is quite accurate. I am not certain why I ever thought that she would be interested in a dance class when I know that she is a water baby. I guess you live and learn.

She will see Dr. Nowicki in his new location this coming week. It is a lot more driving but I think that it is worth it because he has done all of her surgeries. I trust him and think that he is working for her good. What an amazing journey he has taken her through. Sometimes I feel as though I am standing outside of life and watching it fly by. I would have never imagined all of  this.

Jacie has also planned her second sleepover. She is very excited and asks me every single day, "How many days until the girls come?"

She couldn't be happier- so neither could I. For that reason~ I am blessed.

BTW- She loves her chicken, Sally. I think that she is taken better care of then Jacie herself...

And look how old Jacie looks. It seems like just yesterday~
